Benefits of TaskRay's Advanced Scheduler
TaskRay’s Advanced Scheduler, a Premium Edition feature designed to save significant time in managing shifting project timelines, allows users to quickly adjust dates across entire projects or specific tasks by automatically recalculating schedules based on new start and end dates, supports setting baselines for tracking changes, integrates with the On Hold feature for paused projects, and offers an option to exclude fixed milestones or tasks from modifications.
TaskRay’s Advanced Scheduler is a robust and time-saving feature available in the Premium Edition of TaskRay. It was developed in response to customers who were spending significant amounts of time updating dates and timelines across multiple projects. Users reported spending 30 minutes to an hour or more just updating dates on a single project, which became a major issue when managing many projects with shifting timelines.
Advanced Scheduler streamlines the process of managing project schedules. For example, if you have several active projects with timelines that depend on external factors (such as waiting for information from a customer), delays can require you to adjust multiple tasks across multiple projects. Traditionally, this would be a manual and time-consuming process. With Advanced Scheduler, you can move dates across an entire project in minutes. If you only need to change a few dates, you can use the Plan View to push timelines and dependencies, which will adjust dates accordingly. However, if your project timeline is significantly extended or compressed, Advanced Scheduler allows you to enter your new start and end dates, and it will automatically recalculate the timeline for you. If the timeline is shortened, you can compress it to meet a new deadline, saving time and allowing you to focus on the work itself.
Tips and Tricks for Using Advanced Scheduler:
- It is recommended to set a baseline before making changes to your schedule. This helps you track where your project started and what has changed throughout its lifecycle, providing valuable insights for future planning.
- Advanced Scheduler works well with TaskRay’s On Hold feature. If a project is delayed or put on hold, you can easily update the timeline using Advanced Scheduler once the project resumes.
- If there are milestones or tasks that must remain fixed, you can use the “Exclude from Modifications” functionality to prevent Advanced Scheduler from recalculating dates for those specific tasks.
